Political strategic level
Russian Führer Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke by phone about exchanging prisoners of war wounded in Ukraine, the creation of a gas hub in Turkey and the export of grain via the Black Sea, the Kremlin said on Monday.
"Vladimir Putin drew attention to the destructive line of the Kyiv regime, which is based on the intensification of military actions with the support of Western backers, increasing the volume of arms and military equipment transferred. Priorities include cooperation in the energy sector, including the supply of Russian natural gas and the creation of a regional gas hub in Turkey," the Kremlin said.
Well, terrorist Russia is looking for friends, and when Putka does not call Macron or Scholz, Erdogan fits the bill. The key issue here is, of course, gas. The Kremlin is feeling very cash-strapped, with gas sales roughly halving, and the gas hub being developed by Turkey, where Russian gas can become Turkish gas and thus subsequently travel to Europe, is a way of circumventing sanctions. Moscow hopes that, even if it knows the origin of the gas, Europe will turn a blind eye to it out of pragmatism. And, in fact, we believe that this may happen.
The Turkish dictator's spokespeople have not yet announced the details of the talks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to step up its action on the case of Ukrainians forcibly deported to Russia. Bujar Osmani, Foreign Minister of North Macedonia and 2023 OSCE Chairperson, visited Kyiv on Monday, and Mr Zelensky said the two discussed how to "make the OSCE effective".
The US State Department estimated last year that between 900,000 and 1.6 million Ukrainian citizens, including 260,000 children, were forcibly deported to Russian territory. Russia denies the deportations and says the arrivals are war refugees. In November, the country's terrorist Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that some 4.8 million Ukrainians, including 712 000 children, had arrived in Russia since February.
"So far, no international organisation has found the strength to enter the places where our prisoners are held in Russia. This must be corrected", Zelensky also said.
In the 21st century, a barbarian horde is raping Ukrainian women and abducting children, while the world's powerless organisations responsible for security watch on. Russia should be expelled from all international organisations and completely isolated, and all its citizens living abroad should be deported to the Russkiy mir paradise.
The President of Latvia, Egils Levits, has called on Western countries to increase their military support for Ukraine so that the war-torn country will be ready to respond to Russia's attack in February.
"We should provide all the necessary support to Ukraine, especially as Russia is preparing for an attack on Ukraine in February and March, and Ukraine should have all the necessary weapons and support to be able to resist this attack," President Egils Levits said at the World Economic Forum. "Therefore, all tanks should be handed over to Ukraine as soon as possible", he said.
On Friday, Western defence officials will meet again at the United States Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany to discuss Ukraine and related security issues.
On Sunday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said he expects Western countries to increase the supply of heavy weapons to Ukraine, which could mean a broader reversal of the European allies' opposition to direct supplies of some types of heavy weapons to Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February.
Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian foreign ministry, Lavrov's nail-cutter, said that British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, who has been sanctioned by Moscow over Ukraine, has yet to answer for his support for Kyiv.
On Monday, Mr Cleverly said that he had been sanctioned by the Russian Government and added that if this was the price for his support for Ukraine, he was glad that he had been sanctioned.
"Dear James, you don't understand," Zakharova wrote on Telegram. "This is for an anti-Russian course and personal sanctions. But you will still have to answer for supporting the Kyiv regime and neo-Nazism."
The Kremlin calls Britain's intention to hand over 14 Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine, which could be the first shipment of Western-made tanks to Ukraine, "support for neo-Nazism".
Russia is in furry. Never mind that, this frenzy is probably fake. The response should be clear, straightforward, ultimatum, like a strike that destroys Russia's Black Sea Fleet.
The German Foreign Ministry proposes specific mechanisms for the Special Tribunal beyond general statements. Russian President Vladimir Putin and other leaders of the country should appear before an international tribunal for the war of aggression against Ukraine. German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said this during her visit to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.
The German diplomat said that it would not be possible to hold the Russian leadership accountable at the ICC because Russia does not recognise the jurisdiction of the court and the UN Security Council would not be able to give the ICC such a mandate because Russia itself would block the resolution with its veto.
In order to circumvent this obstacle, Ms Berbok proposes that the partner countries work together to set up a 'special tribunal' to deal specifically with the crime of Russia's aggression against Ukraine and to be able to prosecute the Russian leadership. The prosecutors and judges of the tribunal should represent different countries and the tribunal itself should be based outside Ukraine. This would avoid the "appearance of bias".
Yes, of course it does. We remind you that we have already suggested where the Special Tribunal should be located - in Vilnius.
Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg calls for "restraint" towards Russia. He made this statement at a conference of the French Sciences Po University in Paris, reports Kronen Zeitung. He said that we must not "go too far" in denying visas to 144 million Russians because Russia will remain part of European history and culture.
The Minister said that he had no doubts about giving full support to Ukraine in its fight for sovereignty and territorial integrity. "The brutal war of aggression launched by Russia is madness. At the same time, we need to think about what will happen tomorrow, in a week and in a few months", said Mr Schallenberg.
Let us not confuse culture and politics - a slogan born of hypocrisy, under which the Nazis murdered Jews in the gas chambers nearly eighty years ago. The generation that witnessed the horrors of fascism is dead. Once again, the gentlemen who want to make genocide part of European culture are coming to the surface.
The British Defence Secretary, Ben Wallace, has stated that London is preparing a squadron of Challenger 2 tanks for the Ukrainian armed forces. "Today's package is an important boost to Ukraine's capabilities. It means that they can move from existing to pushing Russian troops out of Ukrainian territory", the British defence chief was quoted by The Guardian. London's new military aid package will consist of a squadron of Challenger 2 tanks along with armoured recovery and repair vehicles, 100,000 artillery shells, 100 advanced missiles, 100 armoured vehicles including Bulldog armoured personnel carriers and other vehicles and equipment.
According to Wallace, London believes that Moscow will again go on the offensive in Ukraine and that the allies must step up their joint efforts.
Ukraine's biggest supporters and allies - Lithuania, Poland and the UK - could accelerate Russia's surrender by sending deminers to Kherson, military medics to Bhmut and/or peacekeepers to Zaporizhzhya today.
Operational level
Washington has stated that consideration should be given to transferring long-range missiles to Ukraine. "Regarding long-range missiles: we keep hearing interesting comments about them. I think it is useful not to focus on a specific model. We need to reach beyond the front line and, without going into detail, I would say that at the current stage we recognise this need and we should look at how to help Ukraine meet this challenge, but I will not prejudge what kind of system that might be," said Colin Kahl, Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy at the Pentagon.
Ukrainian troops have arrived at a US armed forces base in Oklahoma where they will receive training on the Patriot missile defence system. "According to a tweet by Fox News reporter Westfield Austin, a plane with 100 Ukrainian military personnel has already landed at Fort Sill airport. The training course will last several months and will include theoretical classes and practical skills training on simulators and Patriot systems themselves.
Russia continues to ask Iran and North Korea for missile and UAV support. This was stated by US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for Policy Colin Kahl in a call with reporters. "Russia will increasingly look to other countries to help it get the weapons it lacks," Kahl said, calling such requests a sign of desperation.
That sign of desperation is, unfortunately, now in its tenth month.
Russian Führer Putin has instructed the new commander of the Russian armed forces in Ukraine, Valery Gerasimov, to occupy Donetsk and Luhansk regions by March. Andriy Yusov, a spokesman for the press service of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, said that Putin is ignoring what is actually happening on the frontline. The Russian President wants to destroy the Ukrainians as a separate nation and to destroy Ukraine as an independent state.
The Ukrainian defence forces have detected six Russian missile-carrying vessels in the Black Sea with a maximum salvo of 44 Kalibr cruise missiles. Spokeswoman Natalia Gumeniuk said that the highest number of Russian missiles in the Black Sea recorded by intelligence throughout the invasion was 48. This means that the number is now close to a record.
We believe that this also means that Russia is preparing for another massive strike, probably combining a drone and missile attack with ground action. This is also confirmed by the Ukrainian General Staff, which reports that the enemy's objective at the moment is to capture the entire Donetsk region. The offensive is continuing in the directions of Bakhmut and Avdiivka.
In addition, a renewed movement of enemy military equipment towards Berdiansk in the south-east is being observed. Petro Andriushchenko, Advisor to the Mayor of Mariupol, said that 20 tanks and about 30 trucks with live ammunition had passed through during the day. While pressing in the east, the Russian occupiers may also try to launch an offensive in the south to extend their control over Zaporizhzhya, which is now about 60% occupied.
Tactical level
Yesterday, the city's main collaborator Oleksiy Kichigin, who defected to the Russian occupiers in 2014, was killed in Berdiansk. When the occupiers took the city in 2022, he immediately returned and posthumously replaced the previous commandant Artem Bardin.
The number of shelling attacks in Zaporizhzhya has increased to 130 in the last 24 hours. There were reports of the destruction of 64 civilian infrastructure objects. During the night, the occupiers shelled the private sector. Fortunately, there were no casualties. The main target was 120 mm mortars.
In the east, intense fighting is taking place near Lysychiansk and Kremina. The occupiers have surrounded Bilohirivka and are attacking in two directions from the south-west of Shypylivka and the north-west of Zolotarivka.
The situation is complicated at Bakhmut, where Ukrainian joint forces have halted the advances of the Drisks from Kurdiumivka to the north-west in order to cut off the supporting Ukrainian forces from Bakhmut.
In the Soledar area, fighting is taking place west of the railway crossing, near Blahodatne and on the northern side of the Mokra Plotva river.
The south-west, north and north-east have been relatively calm.
In the temporarily occupied territories, in the settlements of Zavodivka, Gornostaivka and Cairo in Kherson oblast, the occupiers have stopped the broadcasting of all Ukrainian television channels; only Russian television is currently available.
Ukrainian rocket and artillery forces attacked an enemy headquarters, 11 Russian military concentration points, a fuel and lubricant depot and an enemy ammunition depot during the day.
A storm is approaching.
Congratulations to the National Defence Volunteer Force on its foundation day.
